Canterbury "compares very favourably", says cricket captain

Paul, front left, as Canterbury CCC celebrate success
Canterbury "probably compares very favourably" to similar sized cities in a sporting sense, according to Canterbury Cricket Club Captain Paul Steer.

The Premier League side skipper, who has been involved with the club since the age of 10, led the club to promotion last term, and believes their success, along with the success of Canterbury Rugby and Hockey Clubs amongst others, puts the city at a cut above their competitors. Canterbury CCC were also the ECB National Indoor Champions in 2011.
From what Paul says, it would appear to be true that Canterbury is probably stronger than many other, like-sized cities, with Kent County Cricket Club to add to those teams already mentioned.
It goes back to a point made by a number of people I have spoken to during this project, including John Hinchcliff and Giles Hilton, of Canterbury Hockey and Rugby Clubs respectively, that Canterbury is perhaps more famous due to it being a history and Cathedral, rather than actually being particularly big.

After the club performed so well last season, Paul tells Sport in Canterbury what he thinks helps make a successful team:
